Advent Challenge

acLast year was the Lacey family’s inaugural Advent Challenge, well this year it’s back and, in my true ‘let’s recycle everything’ style, the vessel for this is not the lucky dip jar, but my M&S beauty advent calendar box!

As per last year, the list is full of fun and good deeds. In no particular order (although once they hit the calendar, there may be a little ‘arranging’:

  • Tell someone you love them
  • Give something to charity
  • Buy a lottery ticket and post it through a stranger’s letter box
  • Send a Christmas card to your neighbour
  • Make paper snowflakes and hang them from the ceiling
  • Wear Christmas jumpers for a family selfie
  • Make Christmas cookies
  • Make a Christmas decoration for the tree
  • Tidy your room!
  • Walk like a turkey!
  • Decorate the windows with snow spray
  • Sing Christmas carols at someone’s front door
  • Send Christmas cards to your friends
  • Tell 3 people that you’re doing an Advent Challenge
  • Phone someone and when they answer say “Ho ho ho”
  • Make up a Christmas rap
  • Help wrap some presents
  • Say Merry Christmas to everyone you meet
  • Dance around to Christmas songs!
  • Write a letter to a friend
  • Play with someone at school that you wouldn’t normally
  • Go for a walk and collect anything Christmassy
  • Think of 3 things to be thankful for
  • Watch a Christmas movie

Merry Christmas one and all!

Wonderful Waddesdon in Winter (-ish)!

I had a fabulous day at the National Trust’s Waddesdon Manor yesterday and just have to share my photos (using my new lens!).

Last year we visited earlier in December when we didn’t manage to last until the dusk light show, however in the balmy December climes we’re currently having, we managed to see all of Bruce Munro’s awesome …—… SOS light show this time around.

Without a doubt, my favourite room is the Blue Dining Room with it’s magnificent exploding porcelain chandelier, Porca Miserialight, by Ingo Maurer (2003) – need this in my house, if only I had high ceilings… oh, and the budget to match!

Advent Challenge

The Lacey's Advent Challenge
Spurred on by a post I saw on Twitter, I chatted to Dylan, 6 1/2, about doing an Advent Challenge this year and he jumped at the chance.

My idea was to do something kind every day (seeing as it’s the season of goodwill), but he… I mean we… decided that we should mix it up and do some silly stuff too!

So here’s our challenge, in no particular order; a lucky-dip-a-day, if you will:

  • Give something to charity
  • Hop or jump all day
  • Be positive all day
  • Open the door for someone
  • Find triangles, squares and rectangles all day
  • Buy a lottery ticket and post it through a stranger’s letter box
  • Say Merry Christmas to 6 people
  • Send a Christmas card to your neighbour
  • Sing a whole verse of a Christmas carol
  • Tell 3 people that you’re doing an Advent Challenge
  • Decorate the windows with snow spray
  • Sing Christmas carols at someone’s front door
  • Make your teacher a Christmas card
  • Tell someone you love them
  • Make paper snowflakes and hand them from the ceiling
  • Dance around to Christmas songs
  • Wear Christmas jumpers for a family selfie
  • Make a family Christmas song
  • Put a decoration on the village Christmas tree
  • Make a family Christmas decoration
  • Send Christmas cards to your friends
  • Write a letter to a friend
  • Make Christmas cookies
  • Hand some mistletoe and give out kisses
