It’s been a month since my 39th birthday and ‘the list’ is certainly having an effect on my day-to-day life. So far, my emotions have included happiness, frustration, joy, anxiety – you name it, both ends of the spectrum have been covered!
I love this one – I’ve had only a couple of days where it’s been hard, but I do find myself looking at everything thinking, ‘ooh you make me smile, where’s my camera’!
5. Visit Buddhapadipa Temple
On a rainy Sunday afternoon we drove to Wimbledon to the Buddhapapida Temple. Despite the rain, the temple was simply stunning; the white-washed walls gleamed against the red and gold. Inside the temple, many were meditating – mostly Thai people being a Thai temple – whilst a teacher sat in front of the most glorious alter speaking softly to an Englishman about karma.
We braved the rain to explore the grounds and discovered many deities hidden amongst the trees. A beautiful and peaceful place.
8. Adopt the 10 second rule: “You can stand anything for 10 seconds,” says Kimmy Schmidt. “Then you just start on a new 10 seconds.”
Another one I love – particularly when it comes to exercise. It makes it so much easier knowing you’ve only got to endure 10 seconds!
Surprisingly this is the one thing on the list causing me the most stress!
I’ve always enjoyed cooking and don’t think I’m that bad at it, plus because of this we have loads of cookbooks, but can I just struggle beyond belief to actually cook from a recipe. I look to them for inspiration, adapting recipes by taking out ingredients I’m not so keen on, or adding ingredients I love. But to have to cook, step by step, is hard work.
40. Do less with more focus
This isn’t causing me stress but is difficult because a) I’m scatty and b) I love to procrastinate. I seem to flip from one thing to another every five seconds… but I’m working on it!
Come back to find out about the ones I’m really looking forward to!
